The best bike for you? The one that fits. The right fit maximizes comfort, efficiency, and power to enhance your cycling experience. At Tri Shop, we believe that you should demand a bike purchase process that guarantees the bike you get fits precisely like it should.
Bike Sizing is Broken
Bike manufacturers size their bikes using t-shirt sizing: XS, S, M, L, XL and so on. Bikes were once sized by measuring the distance from the center of the bottom bracket to the center of the intersection of the seat and top tube. If bike frames were all built the same, that would be fine. But they aren't, and that means bike sizing isn't uniform.
Consequently, lots of riders are riding bikes that simply don't fit. They've made expensive mistakes, all because bike shops have been selling them bikes under the assumption that bikes fit the same and riders are all the same.
A Better Way to Fit
At Tri Shop, we subscribe to a fit process that accounts for the differences between brands and frame styles. We size bikes by stack and reach.
Frame Stack: Vertical distance from the center of the bottom bracket to the center of the headtube top.
Frame Reach: Horizontal distance from the center of the bottom bracket to the center of the headtube top.
Getting it Right
Cycling is meant to be fun, and nothing impacts the joy of cycling more than bike fit. If you're racing, the fastest bike for you isn't the bike that performs best in the wind tunnel, it's the bike that puts you in the most comfortable, powerful, and aerodynamic position possible.
Buying a bike is like buying a suit, if it doesn't fit, it's not a good value no matter what it's made of or how it looks. Carbon vs. aluminum, reviews vs. brands, aerodynamics, weight - none of that matters if the bike doesn't fit. That's why Tri Shop is fully invested in being a fit-first approach to selling bikes. It's simply a better way to buy a bike.
To facilitate the fit process, we use the Retül Müve fit bike. The Retül Müve fit bike allows us to dial in your position irrespective of the limitations of the bike frame underneath.
Sure, you can take an existing bike and try a stem change, try a saddle change, and try a position change in an attempt to force a bike into an acceptable fit. But making those changes is evidence that you're not on the best bike for you. Riding a perfect fit means that you can ride the bike the way the manufacturer meant it to be ridden - free of modifications that negatively affect handling, comfort, and aerodynamics.
A Fit for Every Bike
The cost of a full session on the Retül Müve bike is $199 and, if you purchase a bike from Tri Shop within 6 months of the fit, the cost of the fit is applied to your bike purchase - a bike that is ideal for you. If you don't buy your bike from Tri Shop, you'll still walk away confident knowing what bikes, components, and sizes work best for you. Our goal isn't to sell a bike and a bike fit, we want to sell a bike that fits.
Additionally, we do a fit after the bike purchase to make any further adjustments to guarantee the best riding experience possible. When you get your next bike, think fit-first.
